Virgil Milliron or Lynard Skinner

Which is the better iconic name for a Gym Teacher / Wrestling Coach. I vote Virgil Milliron.

ADDED BY MARTY: I wasn't too far off!

This post goes under the "Ellis-Wants-Me-To-Do-Some-Online-Research-To-Understand-What-He's-Talking-About" column.

Google says that there is one person in the United States named "Virgil Milliron" and, according to Spokeo.com, that person is a male in his early eighties, located, coincidentally, in Oklahoma City. Hmmm. So this is your old high school wrestling coach Ellis? Which you posted because you are waxing nostalgic after thinking about your old high school art teacher?

I knew that guy. He was wrestling coach and my drivers ed instructor at Midwest City in 1979. Never saw him after that. Must have retired or went to another school.

Correct Tom. Digging up bones as the song says. That's interesting that he was your driving instructor Jim. He was a famous wrestling coach in the area in the day. Highly sought after.

Lynard Skinner, the band , named themselves for their Gym teacher because they thought it was the ultimate tough guy gym teacher name. I just think Virgil Milliron nudges by it.

And I didn't wrestle Tom. Wish I had. My classes were just PE. Had some watered down but what I considered brutal calisthenics. Virgil was always looking at civilians he could turn into wrestlers. Some kid with good genetics, Milliron (MR Milliron) would give him a pitch.

Well he had to do something when he didn't coach. He was the junior instructor...everybody liked him. I looked in my yearbook and he was gone the following year. As I recall now, I hear he went to Carl Albert HS. Guy was all over the state it would seem. He coached Tuttle HS as well.

Like people in Video Games that get a rep as the guy you want, they respond to big salary improvements.

The name Virgil Milliron wins it by a mile. Love it! What a great pic!

You say this was the high school instructor for...the Teen Ellis??

We are attuned Marty. Yes. As might be expected , for the twist in a good character, he had a slightly high voice. Great for laughing at sudden lethal moments teen Ellis experienced in dodge ball.

Crab Soccer was the most vivid memory. Of course crab soccer is just a tortured way to work your entire body, especially your puny triceps.
I got a soccer ball traveling 90 miles an hour right in the face. I'll always remember how I could read everything on the ball right before it smacked.

Aren't you inspired to draw Coach Milliron and/or put him in a comic book?
