Energy Hook - Cool new indie game in development

Energy Hook's Kickstarter Page

Got a chance to see this in action and to hear a talk from the developer, Jamie Fristrom, at the Seattle Unity User group last night. He worked on Spider-Man 2 at Treyarch and has done some games for XBLA and PS Vita. His latest game is a Unity-powered little gem. Looks very fun and you can see the Spider-Man DNA spliced liberally into the game mechanics. Worth a look and if you can spare some cash, help him keep his project going.

Update from Tom Carroll

I am enjoying all the posts recently, including anything by Marty ... (well, and Ellis, and Scotty, and Rick, and ... well, you get it). I am continuing to "work for the man," at Home Depot, while doing side projects. I'm working much more closely with the founder of RetroActiv Games (Space Baby Patrol) to be more professional with the way we do things. We have S.B.P. being looked at by LAI Games (out of Singapore and Australia) and we're pitching a game to Sea World (and I am writing another one up that would be a game that dispenses bulk candy).

I also just finished a one minute online movie to promote author Simonetta Carr's Christian Biographies for Young Readers book series. I do the maps for these books and it was a pleasure to make this movie because it allowed me to take original art from the books and make some of it move a bit using Photoshop and After Effects. Fun it was.

Now I am done for another six months, or maybe if something else significant happens.     ;-)

Channeling Those Playboy Dudes

A felt-tip marker drawing for Blair from a while ago. Just got this framed for her (speaking of frames, Rick--I love it and feel very honored!).

Without intending to, I think my expression came out like one of those old Playboy cartoons (the "besotted surprise" look, let's call it). I was very pleased with that part...(less so with Blair's face, which I'll admit I tweaked in PhoSho to get a better likeness).

But who doesn't love a fat horse?

I've been rasslin' with devising a workspace at home (always takes me forever to do this, and the slowness fills me with self-loathing...hence my absence on the blog). Great to click back on this, my homepage, and see all the activity here.

And hey--had lunch with Tom Moon yesterday, with a bonus sighting of Joe Shoopack and Rick Randolph. Very good to visit with some old Sony/BlueSky brethren!

Penguins! Escape is now in the App Store!

Go to the iTunes App Store to see the latest game I worked on. Penguins! Escape is a mobile version of a PC game that we gave a serious facelift to. A big Thanks goes to Ronnie for braving the poorly organized original 3D files to update our little penguin animations and re-render them at a size that is more compatible for retina display.  Jeff Remmer also helped out with some new background paintings.

Goon rough. Pin Up

I'll work on it some more tonight. Try to have something kind of finished tomorrow to add to this slot.
The monster is going to be a four eyed Frankenstein. I accidentally arrived at that from some cut and paste adjustments. I always liked drawing stitches in Frankenstein's head.
Gotta do the monster now.
I'm going to ink the rough above separately in Manga Studio.
Using that rough original.
The pencils are based on looking, transcribing, and as usual, I lost something.
Finish
Played with Levels.
The one on Ebay will have no level adjustment

Howard Chaykin on Carmine Infantino

It may have been Tom Moon posting a lot of the Hal Foster Tarzan strips.
I must have picked out at least three things that I know Frazetta directly cribbed.
In fact, it wouldn't surprize me if part of his process wasn't getting into his Foster Morgue as he started to work up ideas.
And you guys know I worship Frazetta.
Going to add a tone layer and a "blacks" layer.
Need to touch up some cats. Stew on it a bit.
Get rid of some tangents.

Back to Lil' Okie Ellis Comic....

Got derailed on this project. Now I'm trying to learn how to use the crow-quill dip pen.
Sheesh, why don't I just make like the rest of the world and do it all on the computer??

p.s. I did this without looking at my Jack Davis book...it's clear I should have!
