Archive

I did a search, ellis goodson art, got lots of hits that take me to miscellaneous ebay stuff that always interests me.
One creature sketch intrigued me and it took me to this TAG archive of glory. Marty-Jeff-Dok- active and smoking with the contributions to the blog.

I did this drawing at Sooner Con, based on the fellow pictured. I had already done his 5? year old son as Superman. So later he wants me to do him. I take a ref photo and I think tear it up on the likeness.
His reaction, "I'll tell people it's supposed to be me."
I suffer every day for the art.

Life sucks.....looks like I'm bugging out sooner

Dad has taken a turn for the worse. Busting my ass to leave this coming weekend. The stress alone is going to kill me.

UPDATE: Now my Mom was taken to the Hospital last night via ambulance .....this is unbeleavable

Comics Alliance discovery!

Click Here to see that my Monsters and Dames drawing was previewed on the Comics Alliance website.  I didn't even know about this until just now!  Kinda cool.

BTW, I have a game that I've been working on for about a month now and we are nearly done with it.  I'm really looking forward to sharing what we came up with.  I've made every single piece of art in the game and it's been a blast to work on.  It's a pretty simple game and the art is mostly a bunch of digital paintings.  I'll keep you posted about it.

TAG for July is meeting on the 1st... can anyone come up to make it to the meeting?   You are all invited!  :)

Going to Sooner Con tomorrow

Taking my little whiteboard sketchpad.
I'll take pictures of the con and my whiteboard

I had a good time and made some sales and enjoyed some people. Here's what I did on index cards as I waited for people to come to me.
Kind of a lure. One dollar for 5 minute doodles.

Table mate , Scott McClung captioned this as
"Here is Ellis Goodson using his super speed to do a sketch at SoonerCon Saturday."
Explaining the blurred hand.
More like having a fit, trying to do a child likeness.
 Last one.
Another overfed Goodson thread.

New Website for Home Depot Apron Art ...

Hi, y'all ... Just an update. First, I have made a Website for my Home Depot apron designs. Here it is. The reason? I had a meeting with the District 21 HR person and made the suggestion that the district have a person in charge of aprons for special events, etc. She wasn't against it (was actually wearing one of my aprons at the time, but didn't know I had made it). Now I have a Web page for her to check out and send to the top guy in the district: The Decision Maker.

Next, I am talking to two investors to come in and fund a new company that would make two initial "popper" game prototypes, Candy Popper!! and a bulk candy version of Space Baby Patrol. One guy is considering my business plan right now (a high tech & Costa Rica teak plantation baron I met in the aisles of my Home Depot store ... go figure) and I am meeting with another tomorrow. There may be a third guy, too. Gotta give him call.

That's about it. Maybe more to follow when there are updates.

Fire and Brimstone

Guy at work, bugging me for art to go with his Biblical epic script
So I did this messing around in Photoshop.
Pretty bad.
Could paint into it and address a lot of glitchy stuff.
But I won't

Is it Wordpress?

Facebook interacted with the artist of this web comic. Indi Martin.
It became clear to me that for my purposes Blogspot would be all the web comic delivery system I would ever need.
The simple buttons.
Links to archives.
Customizable page look.

It's official, Sayonara San Diego

Well it's official. After 17 years (23 total) I'm leaving San Diego. My Father had a fall and broke his hip. He's in bad shape, My Mother's Alzheimers is progressing quickly. My job options are at ZERO. I can no longer in good conscience stay here. Technically broke I have to go and help my family while there is still time. I have no idea what the future holds. This is a BIG unknown for me. Moving day is July 18, 2014.....very worried, very sad....lots of packing

Close to making a usuable xtra bridge

This is a proof of concept item. The negative space on the roof of the mouth filled in.
But the teeth look very plausible when I placed it in my mouth.
Big issue was learning to use alginate for the mold. Never used it. It is touchy and it shrinks quickly.
Used my existing metal and acrylic bridge as the positive.
The teeth are embedded in a clear silicone. Shouldn't be toxic. Just rubber.
I want something that is easy to use, doesn't bug me as much as the metal, still looks halfway presentable and I don't care if I lose it.

 SUCCESS!
Not really. I'm using fix-o-dent here. I don't know how people stand that stuff. And it still migrates all over the place.
Nothing to hold it into place like the metal bridge.
Now I know. Leave dental work to the pros.

Reynold Brown- NOT

Now I know different.
The Not Of This Earth is a big favorite.
Albert Kallis
Tom's got me thinking. I should be all about photoshop compositing. Never think of a panel until I start to scale the art . Never touch a pencil. Do the art in ballpoint an image at a time..
These were done in the back of the Van , down times waiting to get to the airport to pick up "dirties."

Got an interview

Finally got a call back. Tomorrow at 10am. Guess my test samples worked. They said this is a open ended contract.

Got back UGH!

Setting Tom's mind at ease

The bottom pic has the words Larry Latham gave me about doing boards or panels.
"Whats important? What's an interesting way to show it?"

Smallest thumbnails are often my best stuff

I like how easy it would be to do a nicer sketch and have something that catches the eye.
Just a prop and theatrical lighting.

Got the Vistaprint Banner.
HUGE!
I added this bit of news here rather than a new post.
The next post knocks off the completeness of Silent Joe being on these first Blog entries.

Stagefright at the Labcorp

And enough with the autobiographical cartoons for a while.

Here's the one that was deleted, because my ego demands the oeuvre stay intact.
Concluding with the Comic Fest badge:

A drawing.

I haven't posted one of those drawing things in a while.  I've actually been drawing a fair amount lately, it's just never been convenient to share anything until now.

One, Two, Three....Testing!

After 3 weeks since the call. The agency that contacted me about a job doing technical illustrations sent
me 2 test samples. So I know what I'll be doing tonight. Fact that they did this is hopeful. I'll have to bust my butt on this.

Hello stranger

2 Urgent Issues!!

I'm absolutely blown away by the treasure trove of recent posts here (you guys truly ROCK), but I now have the enviable position of trying to light a fire under your collective butts. Not for my own diabolical "ends", but for those of SD Comic Fest.

1.  AA: YES or NO?
If any of you who participated in Artist Alley 2012 or 2013 want to do so again this year, I need immediate confirmation!  Just reply here or at bc@grafikus.com so I can reserve your spot. You can do registration and the form later ... but if I don't hear from you by tomorrow midnight, I must start accepting names from the waiting list. Thus far, Eric and Buncake are the only returning TAGsters ... they'll each be getting TWO full Fest passes (in addition to their Alley spot) for a mere $25 TOTAL.

2.  Badge Art
At yesterday's Fest planning meeting, we learned that Ben's T-shirt design was a "go" (YAY, Ben!) ... but shocked to learn that not a single design was submitted for the badges! :O
If Rock doesn't get some artwork soon, he'll resort to doing the badges himself again ... and believe me, nobody wants that. If you'd like to submit a design, please refer to Ben's earlier post for the specs ...
http://tuesdayartgroup.blogspot.com/2014/05/everyone-do-registration-badge.html
The Bill Mumy and Rod Serling were simply wonderful! The latter would be especially well-received, since the Café tribute this year is the Twilight Zone. For more ideas, see Ben's post as well as the Fest's special guests page (alas, no Mumy) ...

Raw Art and Artist Elizabeth Layton

Here's four examples of the raw art before it's been "cut out" and manipulated in Photoshop.  I treat them as paper cutouts which allows me to slide them around until I find color and composition that pleases me.

I found this woman's story inspiring (out of one of my books on drawing).  "Having endured a thirty-five year struggle with depression, she took a drawing class at age sixty-eight and learned the technique of blind drawing-drawing without looking at the paper.  She credited this process with curing her depression and saving her life."

This must be a good week for project milestones. I finally finished this Cosmic Theatre story. Here's the first sixteen pages. As it ended up, I did not write a sequel to "Raymond and the Giant Robot Attack". Longtime members of TAG will spot this as a massive re-do of a tiny story I did about eight years ago.  Just as "Raymond" was my version of a Giant Robot story, so this is my version of the "Monomyth" or "The Hero's Journey" tale.
