doodles with the palomino Blackwing

got in my Palamino Blackwing pencils from the California Cedar Products Co. Been playing around and comparing it with the Original Eberhard Faber Blackwing 602. Is it is as GOOD? IMHO it's not, close but no cigar. Is it a decent replacement? possibly. It's darker, it's seems softer and the lead wears faster. The wood seems bigger and heavier and the eraser ferrule is larger and keeps the pencil off balance way more than it's predecessor, plus the eraser is useless like so many pencil erasers of today. As I see it the original 602 is a part of lost history of pencils. A thing of legend, yes but will never really come again like so many other LOST pencils of yesteryear.

This was done on a cream color higher quality paper.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's frustrating when an item you like is discontinued or replaced with something that not like the original.

Are the materials used to make the original blackwing no longer available or just to expensive to use?

By the way, nice collection of sketches. I love the variety you have here.

Good work Jim. Wasting your 20 bucks so I don't have to. I can tell by your description it's missed the point. As good or better has to be the goal when you take up this legacy.

I had hoped it would be a actual copy but no such luck. The original Blackwing was discontinued back in 98. Anyone with stock is asking high $$$$ for a single pencil. Well the new company bought the trademark but NOT the formula it would seem. Thanks, the sketches were done quick getting a feel for the smoothness of the lead.

It still works, I'll keep playing with it.

What is the pencil of which you speak... is that some kind of special stylus?

Did you read my pencil report a few threads back? Go take a look, I put all the links.

It's a fancy tits joke Krayonzilla. Yeesh.
Krayonzilla calls me up and says something like "I guess you'd say it's "funny" tits ( I don't remember exactly what he said). Point being he didn't get that "fancy" is what makes fancy tits a special part of speech.

Yeah, I was just joking that some folks (well, me, at any rate) don't use pencils very often anymore. Most of my drawing is directly on a screen.
