stuff I've been working on

More concept sketches from my sketchbook.
as well as a digital composite I did awhile back
working towards some print illustration ideas and style.
This prototype is a combination of digital and traditional
media with heavy emphasis on design. working on some
traditional techniques this weekend.

Very nice. I'm surprised about that finish look. Bring a few more of those around to that level.

Surprised about that finish look? In what way?

It's high level. I expect more native confidence in someone that can do high level.

Some nice work Jimmyboy! Particularly like the variety of designs and the linework. Gives a cool Moebius feel. Pretty slick!

Thanks Scotty, yeah it kind of has a "Moebius" feel I guess. I like this pencil I'm using. A Mitsubishi Vermillion/Prussian Blue. I like the look it gives.

native confidence in someone that can do high level? Your jibber jabbering is cryptic. So your saying you DIDN'T expect this quality from someone with a LACK of confidence??? Well I blame that on the MANIC depression.

Looks great, Jim. Great to watch you improving with every post, unlike some of us whose skills are deteriorating...

The graphic lady looks like a perfect frontspiece for that beloved volume of Ellis poetry, "Frontspiece Lady Native Confidence."

(It was written during his "beat" period, I think.)

If you are using these to build a portfolio my only suggestion would be to dbl-check some of yr structure. It's a very subtle thing, and I think you're right there with it--maybe just take a little time in Photoshop to play with resizing/rotating/repositioning some of the features. X-flip the drawing and see if that doesn't help you spot this. I have to do this on practically every piece I draw because I have a really wonky right-hand slant--but the results look really polished. And by going thru the structure check ultimately your drawing will improve!

Remember, it's not cheating if you are the one making the corrections.

Thanks Marty. I know. It was a FIRST pass and I never tweaked anything. But thanks for the points, I'll keep it in mind when I get to the "polished" phase. Still need to work much out. Fighting a damn cold today, boy it jacks my sketching

Beautiful design! Love it. This sort of style would make a great print series.
