Publisher's Sample of "Batter! Broil!! Baste!!!" ...

Here is the link to the publisher's sample (aka: dummy) of "Batter! Broil!! Baste!!! The Comic Creators Cookbook" as uploaded to the Scribd Website. I've never used Scribd before, but so far it appears to do everything as advertised. What you see here is only five of the approximately 95 recipes the finished book will contain and I will use this sample to lure a publisher into working with myself and Jill Duffy to finish, polish, and publish the balance.

If you want to see the book and flip the pages like a book, then go to the link from the title. There is a little pull down menu in the lower left corner that allows you to view as SCROLL, BOOK, or SLIDESHOW. I like BOOK because there is a two page comic originally done by Roger Robinson that is best viewed with both pages on screen at the same time.

Otherwise, explore this cool new technology and have fun with it.

Looks great, Tom!
BUT ... I hope you remember to take out the superfluous parenthesis in your Forward ... (at the end of the sentence mentioning Lois Lane and Lana Lang).

When will the books be ready? How many copies are you getting printed? Enough for all of us, I hope!

It still feels somehow wrong (especially now that I see the sample) to have included me, and I wonder how you justify it in the text ... did you just make up stuff about me?

Correction: The parenthesis is not actually superfluous, but just appeared so because the two end ones were used so close together. In cases where you have a set of parentheses within another set, I believe the rule is to use brackets on the outer set, like so:
[ ... and a human woman (Lois Lane or Lana Lang) ... ]

The deleted comment was mine, identical to the one below it -- except for the (gulp!) TYPO it contained. I was too quick to post.

BTW, I really like Scribd's viewing technology.

Thanks, Beata ... and glad you caught that typo, for ALL of us!! The books will not be ready for this year's Con. This is the publisher's dummy, a small subset of the finished book that is used to entice a publisher to commit to publishing the whole book (I'm going to annotate that in the posting, btw). So during the Con and right after, I will be inviting all cookbook publishers to view the dummy and begin a dialog about taking it on. While I am not against self publishing, I don't have the ready cash money to order an initial run. I'll have a couple copies of the dummy at my Artists Alley table, HH-19, and will also have a small card to hand out with details, much like Scotty does for Cork.

Thanks again for the compliments!

Love the comic book drawings that adorn some of the pages. Hope there are many, many of those scattered throughout. Really makes it a unique product. I have bought food books and cookbooks merely on the strength of the art. I have a beautiful seafood cookbook at home I bought just for the paintings of the fish.

I think there's a typo on the second page of Appendix I Recipe Index. The ninth item down says "Shebherd's" instead of "Shepherd's". And you probably want to capitalize "potatoes" in "Mashed Potatoes" at the bottom.

Excellent work on edits, Tom! But I'll have to hide the sharp objects around the house tonight, though ... my wife prides herself on her abilty to spot typos. Eeek!

Oh, and I cobbled together as much comic work as I could without having a publisher on board. Getting one would allow me to return to Tony, Craig, and Syd (and all the other contributors, too) to attempt to obtain additional art for each page and/or a section of original art at the center of the book.

Oh, er, one more thing. The short piece of writing that is found at the beginning of a book is a "Foreword", not a "Foreward".

I like the preview set up. Great that it's so liberally filled with Kirby
