Pencils Done for FUME #1

Now to do a marker version...before Monday morning.

(This one took forever...I'm not used to doing covers, so I had to edge my way up on it, adding one figure at a time and seeing how it looked...I think when I add color I can knock back some of those tertiary figures...gonna use a faint printout of the pencils to do my markers over, then scan that and combine them via the magic of MULTIPLY!)
 this thing is killing me.

UPDATE THE THRICE: Revised and finalized for the "art print" version. Elz, thanks for the color input--it really helped!!

BTW Marty, I have some changes to my schedule... I need to drive up to Vancouver BC to pick up Sue at the airport on Thursday(long story). I probably don't need to leave until 1:30, so I'm probably going to go to the con before that and do some set up. I have more stuff than I can take on the bus in one trip, so I'll have the van downtown with me. Let me know if you are going to be around before that time and perhaps we can arrange to meet earlier.
Will you have copies of FUME for the con?

Fume can't be ready by the con surely. That is one awesome image for the cover. I really like that classy tile on the restaurant. A few fixtures here and there to sell it as a restaurant interior. Mainly it's a great character sandwich. That's what draws people to comics. The characters. I really hope this becomes legendary, like The Rocketeer. You've got it in you Marty.

Rick, 'm trying to get some more copies of FUME printed--but they'll be incomplete ashcans again(BAD)...have to 'cuz I sold out of the last batch (GOOD).

At least I'll have more to sell...and with a new cover:)

AS to Thursday....I have no idea what or how we're doing anything. I think we get in around 11 AM. Planned to take the train to the hotel and chillax-itate for a bit, then maybe wander over to the CON...? Have to get my badges, etc. Figure I'll drop some stuff. Might use Lyft to get over there (cheap and easy and treat their drivers/comp better than Uber).

But that's just a thought.

So, is this a wraparound cover with Chubby on the front and Teen Ellis on the back?

Marty: That's more of less what I figured. I need to head out around 2:00, but like I said, I'll have the van with me, so I could give you and your stuff a ride to the con on my way out of town. I could hand off your badge at that point as well, or leave it at the Reg desk at the con. We can play it by ear.
Ugh. Spent the day at the mall waiting for the car's brakes to be replaced, so I didn't get any con stuff done today. I'm still recovering from a cold and Sue is out of town so I'm carting around kids and showing my face at the office when I can as well.
Tommy has a sleep over on Saturday night, so sadly he won't be joining us for the dinner on Sat night (I did manage to make reservations for Icon Grill today).

Thanks for arranging the dinner Rick. Marty, the cover is looking incredible.

WOW Marty....That color is GORGEOUS! It has a 50's vibe to it.

Jimmy! Did you spot yrse'f in there?!!?

(thanx mucho for the kind words, dudes...did ALL the color work in one day...finished at 5 AM...OOF!)

Great work. Fun that there is an origianl of this vs the all digital stuff I would do.

The little blue boy strikes me as too blue- especially the dark blue piping. Seems to come off the page compared to the rest of the color.

Minor distraction.

I noticed Jim.

Gerry's red eyes and nose make his look so grotesque, it recalls the Spumco style a bit. Patty thinks scorpion-mom looks like Blair and so do I. So this will be a new color cover, but the interior will be the same as last year?

Elz y'ou're right about the blue boy (a color issue you called!) I'll have to tamp him down for the real production piece...this week it's just the same Ashcan edition with new cover (sorry man, I've been a total slacker).

I saw the box of ashcans on Tumblr. Very cool. People should snatch those up.
Did you leave yourself a blank page for a personalized sketch?

Davis Chino said...

Elz, yes, I left a blankie at the end. Just like the last one. And I took your advice and knocked back the blue boy on the poster version. Glad you saw the box...got 100 printed, but at too dear a price ($3.50 or so a copy). But I had to do it--if not, I'd have nothing for ECCC!

Is Blue Boy influenced by a viewing of THE DAY OF THE LOCUST? The kid that Homer Simpson stomped to death.
Donald Sutherlan's character.

Davis Chino said...

Elz--no, I don't remember that kid...but I loved Burgess Meredith as the door to door dancin' salesman.

I saw your tumblr post with all the markers. Very cool.

homer simpson murders child in day of the locust

Kid has a ruffled collar. And he's skinny with blond curly locks. Great read and pretty good movie.

This is bloody by the way.
