Iron Man #3

I HEART Rockfish

Watching old episodes of The Rockford Files is the only way I've yet found of connecting my present day experience of living in LA with any of the city's former charms.

Sketched via pause button. I was looking for expressions. You can judge how short the drawings fall by comparing them to the attached descriptions, like, "BLITHE SCHADENFREUDE." Ellis, can you name that perennial 70's era heavy who mocks Jimmy from the upper left hand corner?

While your on the subject of odd YouTube stuff

My favorite monstermaker company from Japan on display. Click on link for more pics.

Lego Fun

I thought Jeff might be interested in this web site someone at work sent around. I haven't tried it out yet, but apparently you can download a program that allows you to digitally design a lego set, then upload the blueprints to Lego. Then they price and ship you the custom set of pieces necessary to build your design. Click on the title to go there.

Ultraman Color Studies

Click on the title for the link.

My friend did some color studies from Ultraman that you might find interesting. Check it out. Oh and he left Sony last month to be head of story on Astroboy. Don't worry, we all told him not to "fuck it up."

Great Links for Comic Related Surfing

The title takes you to the comics related stuff. Use the top right hand column to link to museums of online museums to surf your way to the museum of forgotten art supplies. I don't miss waxers and paste up in general. I remember when "desktop publishing" was such an exciting buzzword.

Making a Good Impression

This is the work of one of my students at Otis. A great cartoonist. And a brutal caricaturist. I saw this and instantly trimmed my ear and nose hair.

Revenge

Here's the latest Mokosos drawing. I didn't finish Unusual Snowmen. I couldn't think of anything good. One of the guys here noticed that my last three drawings have had a horribly overweight theme. Must be something Freudian there but I have no idea what.

Goodson in '08!

Facebook

So I've had a Facebook account for a while and it seems pretty cool. I was never into the whole MySpace thing. It seemed ugly and looked like hell to manage. Facebook is fun and a way to keep in touch. Not that I'm trying to dissassemble the TAG blog mind you. Just another way to waste your time. BTW Maurie Manning and Joe Shoopack are on it. Heres a link to my my profile you want to check it out.

UPDATE: Oops. You can't really see it unless you have an account. Damn these exclusive clubs!! Maybe I can take a screenshot of it and post that...

Buta or 战士猪

Here's a drawing I did in a meeting today. Drawn in marker then colored in Photoshop. Still trying to get the hang of the Cintiq/Photoshop.

Steve Gerber passes

This just bums me out. All those great comic stories and characters from the 70's.

Long Beach Security

Alarms ringing, babies crying.

"Pencil" Kong

This is my first drawing that I've done with one of the Pencil brushes that Ellis pointed us to the other day. I dig it (the brush, that is).

Also, I want to point out that I received 2 Toho Kong movies for Christmas this year (thank you, Tommy!). So, as you can see, I've got Kong on my mind. I have to say that I'd much rather watch King Kong Escapes a few more times than Jackson's King Kong... the Toho film is MUCH more entertaining!

Trek Remastered: The Ultimate Computer SFX reel

This was shown this weekend for those who don't keep up with it. I waited a year to see this one. Not bad but could have been better.

Here is some comparison images to other episodes

Star Trek the Travelling Circus

I went to Star Trek the Tour last weekend in Long Beach. It's housed in the dome that formerly housed the "Spruce Goose". If you're a TRUE Trekker then you should definitely check it out. I didn't even know about it until a friend of mine who is actually managing the food part of the tour told me about it. I went at the last moment during the SuperBowl. That might have explained the thin crowds but I don't really watch football so it was fine with me. Here are a few of my hilights:

1.Me jumping throught the "Guardian of Forever"
2.Schematic used on Star Trek the Next Generation set complete with duck, hamster, and Porsche.
3. Shuttle trainer model with GI Joe Cobra decal on the cockpit.
4. I actually got to sit in the Kirk's original bridge chair. It is VERY cheesy AND they didn't allow pics while you were on the set. Boo Hoo.
5. There were a few hardcore fans there dressed up in costume and a Vulcan walked by and gave us the Superbowl score.
6. Ate at "10 Forward" where they have the actual "Quark's Bar" set. Very uncomfortable.
7. Saw Hirschfeld crew caricatures from all of the shows. He's awesome!

The tour has been extended through March I think and they have no plans to go to San Diego or San Francisco. So go to Long Beach for it's only California stop!

Congrats Heavy Iron!

I went to the Annies this past Friday night and THQ (Heavy Iron) won best animation for a video game!! Congrats Ellis and Marty!

Best Animated Video Game

Avatar: The Last Airbender “The Burning Earth” – THQ, Inc.

Bee Movie Game – Activision

Ratatouille – THQ, Inc.*

Transformers: The Game – Blur Studios

Actually Ratatouille walked away with 10 awards. You can see the full results here.

Shadowrun is Beloved

So is Vectorman for that matter. Look at the end of this clip. It brought back memories..Go to youtube and make your search for sega genesis. All you Blue Skyers will see your place in history.

Check out the credit roll at the end off this one.

Thank God I kept all the art from the first one. Made Rampage Edition a lot smoother. Dok Whitson being Lead also made it smooth. They have a special award after the dumb critique at the end of this clip. Put it on puase so it's all loaded and you can speed through some of the freeze frame "humour" moments.

But don't miss the comment about the " dumb black outlined Dr Grant" That black outline was all me. i fought for it and now I admit, it looks pretty cheezey.

OK, I'll quit now. Makes you miss Dana doesn't it?

Ha! I have posted the first Robat! And I drew it with the nifty free PS brushes that Ellis pointed us to!

Skewlewags by Chewie

Click on the title to see more cool work by this guy Chewie. Apparently he draws these on photos of walls, sidewalks and curbs. Rick, I thought you might be especially interested in this stuff. Looks like there are lots of links to other illustrators and concept artists on this page too.

Gators

Good Character Blog and Photoshop Brushes

Click the title for link.

The illo shows a character design assignment of Stephen Silver's fashioning.

Do a attention to detail portrait study noting important feature details and then force those details onto new geometry. Square, round, triangular.

The blog also has great links. I bought a couple of his book recommendations

But especially get the photoshop brushes he links to.

I was tickled with how much the charcoal 1 he recommends feels like a real honest to god pencil.
Stick it in your photoshop presets , load it and try it.

(added a couple of hours later) And he reviews the 12 inch cintiq ( doesn't like the number of cables)
