10 thousand years ago when I did my one year at the Kubert school, they had a sticker business in the basement. Alumni of the school drew and colored licensed Marvel characters that were made into stickers and buttons. I get on YouTube too often and listen to nasty reviews of modern Marvel Comics and none of the new books seem to be the characters you are making. Who is giving you the list of what to draw? And one other thing, I think the maker of the San Diego Comic Fest Artist Alley Mail Chimp list has purged people who have not come in a while. That means you. Did you get an Artist Alley invite? Would you like one? I think I misplaced your current email, if you have mine let me know, or else we can continue on this open forum.
Thanks Ben. Probably Spider Gwen is the only character that would seem "with it" that I'm doing on a card.I was turned loose to make my own list. But, I was given a huge list of things not to draw. All the Fox owned stuff and lots of long ago obscurity stuff. (Paste Pot Pete) or a lot of the 80s, so cute they were sickening, one off, type of things.I dream of San Diego. I google street view it all the time. Look at old haunts. But I'll probably never be back. So you can take me off the list. Thanks for asking.
Never off the list. Never.
Thanks Ben. All done with the color. I'll share Fin Fang Foom. I'm embarrassed by the awful things. Never again. I can't do analog color.
I think you have spent so much time doing single panels that are jock full of context that you were lost doing a meaningless panel. If you had the time (or have the time should you do more) you should think of a story and put the character into it and capture just one panel like you do for the book illustrations. I bet that way you would have gotten a better handle on position and value. Even if the character isn't throwing a punch you could work in something interesting in his posture or setting. My two cents.
Good points Ben. Any time you deal with a large "rinse, repeat" art chore, mediocre results are a threat unless you have an ethic that prevents it.
I wrote "jock full"instead of "chock full". My therapist will have a field day.
