Comic book update:

So, originally I was going to collect money and art to pre-print the Comic book.  Now I’m more of a mind to put it together on Lulu (or some other books-on-demand service) and let people order as many copies as they would like to have and/or to sell at ECCC or other conventions.  Soooo all I’m really looking for at the moment is art that people want to contribute to the thing.  It doesn’t need to be a full comic, it can just be some cool drawings you’ve done.  You can contribute as many or as few pages as you like.  Please send your art files to rick@rickschmitz.com … 150 dpi should be fine, B & W only.  If you use any of your own copyrighted characters please make a note of it in your file.  I think we should avoid using established characters (unless you have established them yourself!).  Also, please include a brief bio (a paragraph at the most) and any contact info that you want to have in the book in the email that you attach the art to (I would like to have a couple of pages in the back devoted to this info).  Please send me your files by Dec. 21st so that I can use the holiday break to put together the book.  If anyone has a cool color piece for the cover, I would be happy to have a look.

Oh, and if anyone has a title for the book I’m all ears!  Thanks!

"Schmitz Folly"

Lulu is a great solution.
Have ten printed, sell half, sign people up for a raffle for 5. Get orders and mailing addresses for extra customers. Get an email list set out as well. For reminding people they wanted to buy but wanted to look around first ( that's my weasly way to get out of handing over cash)

I guess that should be "Schmitz' Folly."

I'm going to go through my strip, Turn every panel into silhouette, use a kinkos card I have about 3 bucks left on, print it out, show it to Marty on Sunday

Right now I'm thinking of this for a title...

TAG:Tuesday Art Group
San Diego, Seattle, and Beyond

I'm also planning a dedication to Shel and Rick Johnson.

I think "Schmitz's Folly" is correct. It's great that you are taking charge of this Rick. Things only get done if one person has the first and last word on a project. For myself, I'm planning on taking two weeks for the Christmas break this year and seeing if I could actually do the comic during that time - a "sincerity-of-intent" test. If I can't, it's clear I'm not serious about it. In any case, it sounds like I won't be ready by the time you're asking for art.

Regarding what to call the book: In your present title I most like the word "Beyond", and would suggest that the actual title be something like, "Comics From Beyond!" as it's got the comicy-drama you want when trying to catch the eye of casual browsers. The factual, explanatory words,("TAG: Tuesday Art Group" etc.) are better in a subtitle.

I am going to have a 3 page strip.

I had a genius idea.
Because that's how my brain works.

After I had to radically edit my gag cartoon strip ( and improved it in the process ) I now realize I'm one page away from finishing WAIT.

All I have to do is finish it on the next page. So instead of lollygagging around and never finishing another 6 or more pages,

I move into edit , re-structure, bammo , re -think mode and have a three page strip.

Then I'll contribute another drawing to top of my contribution.

Especially since we're talking LUlu. POD.

New title for the book. WAIT NO LONGER

... but it's not really a folly.

We'll see how much I get done during the holidays... Tom, don't be so sure that I won't be able to put in your comic. If it doesn't arrive until early Jan I will probably still have time to add it.

Thank you, Tom, for retracting "Schmitz's Folly".

It's not a folly!

Rick, your plan sounds beautiful. In addition to my work, I have four pages of Thompsonia ready to go...(well, I will have them ready to go before Xmas). Tom Moon, I am personally very excited at this prospect you've dangled in front of us of devoting 12 days of Xmas to the TAG book.

Do it! Prosperity will thank you!

Just spent the afternoon/evening with Ellis hashing out a short story for him to pencil and me to ink--you'll dig it!

A Moon story and a Goodson/Davis production?! Love it! I've sent out a message to all the people I could think of who's ever attended a TAG meeting to invite them to participate. No replies yet, but I'm hopeful a few of them will come through with something.

I'm communicating poorly. My last comment wasn't a retraction. It was supposed to be a clarification. What I should have said is this:

I think "Schmitz's Folly" is grammatically correct, as opposed to "Schmitz Folly" or "Schimtz' Folly". You need to add apostrophe "s" to Rick's last name in this case to form the possessive. Where's Beata when I need her?

But the phrase is not correct in its meaning because the project is not a folly.

Whew.

It was a joke. C'mon!

Kudos for trying to herd the cats into doing a collaborative effort.

I'm doing page three of Wait today.

Make sure I have that to contribute.

Also clear the way for Marty's story.

Tom Moon said...

Oh yes, I just thought Marty thought we were serious.

Tom Moon said...

But maybe he was joking too.

Tom's right:
"Schmitz's Folly" is grammatically correct.

It's nice to be needed.

I always like to hang a little Folly around the house at this time of year...

I brought up the book at last night's TAG meeting... I think we will have some more contibutors. I'll probably send out a few reminders in the next couple of weeks, but people clearly want to contibute. :)

I'm bailing out on the idea of having a contribution to the comic. Got a few too many things jangling my cage at the moment to find that still place that makes a good drawing

I received a Ranjo drawing over the weekend! Yay!

Probably won't be checking in for a week or so. On the way to OKC early Sat afternoon.

Took a flamethrower to 27 years of art possessions. Library got much of it. The rest went into paper recycling. Including old sketchbooks.

I feel lean and mean.

If I strike oil in OK I'll see you in the flesh again. Otherwise, youtube, blogs , twitter, skype, that's our contact.

Wish me luck. Just got a Geico policy. My 21st century ins had lapsed and the dmv sent a note to me the day before I rolled out. I think Michael Landon has been put in personal charge of my corporal account.

Rickart said...

Good luck Ellis! We are thinking about you and wishing you well!

Beata said...

Ellis, did you get my message on your Skype number?

Tom Moon said...

Yeah Ellis, good luck and I hope we see you in Seattle!

Davis Chino said...

Ellis, may the Good Lord protect and keep you, brother. Drive safe and get re-calibrated in Oklahoma. We'll be awaiting your next post to tell us you're OK in OK.

Beata. Still haven't got my skype hooked up. I got a DM twittre from Peter. Still got a ton of reconnect to do. All the big stuff is done. The heavy lifting.
Quite the experience. Had glazed ice that formed a nightmare scenario for middle of the night driving. Ice driving from Flagstaff to New Mexico.
People spinning out in front of me and going into snow banks. Semis laying on their sides littering the 1-40.
Got to OKC 5:30 their time. Solid 25 hour drive. No stops except for gas and coffee.
The room I'm setting up in is great. I'll send pictures when U get the final dealio.
