For Ranjo... on his birthday.
The final sleep creeps upon us inexhorably with a glacial attentiveness seasoned by seasons. Even the hardened resolve of mountainous cascading rock must eventually bow to the will of ending in a corroding, settling penitence. It is an ever-patient walk that eventually ebbs with brittle ivory swiftness. It lies adjacent and in direct contrast to our furtive belief that our passage through this one existence will be a glass filled with steady accomplishment and engraved blandishments and yet how often do we remain tethered to the grounded stakes of our own ill-serving langor. It's a race with an ever-fixed finish line that is crossed by all yet never won, its track stained with the treads of turns untaken. A fleeting rush of water past ankles in a knees-deep stream... the grit of sand through desperate knuckles... a challenge un-challenged... a permanence lost. With the asterisk that is our lives what have we carved into the stone sidewalk that stretches past both horizons? Is the cut deep enough to be noticed or the smudge of a cigarette butt washed away with the first rain? Do you finally go to that sleep gleefully empty of promises unkept or will regret light the night and never let you rest? Time may tell. But we won't hear it.
So Jeff, I hear you're having a birthday.
Tick-tock.

If Bruce had lived to be OLD.
This photo just creeps me out to think this would be what he might look like today at 70. Sucks getting old for us who have lived longer than he did. He'll always be young forever.
Also the ETD cast as they have faired over the years. Bob Wall looks even worst as I saw him at the Con. The new Jim Kelly was was from this last Con too.
After looking at them, This image of Bruce aged is TOO much, cool BUT too MUCH based on his former cast mates have aged better. So I think Bruce would have too as he was in top condition then and would have practiced his fitness well into his senior years, so he would be in better shape than the other 3 combined. For 60-70 years his face probably wouldn't look so cracked maybe at 80-85. This picture is of a man who has lived a very hard life of physical combat. That would apply to his film persona.

iPad sketch
This is a test to see if I can really post a drawing directly from an iPad. I'm using the Blog Writer app and had to use Photoshop Express to rotate the pic. I love the iPad for sketching. Oh and I use Sketchbook pro and a stylus from Boxwave.

Kirby Dabbling
Title is a link to some Jack Kirby art. I was thinking how unlikely something as ornate as this costume could ever be approved for a character design in animation.
I'm going to make some Kirby brushes to stamp out some quick abstract backgrounds.

iPad Wallpaper
From the once and future "Paris Sketchbook," repurposed to iPad background.
(If you zoom in, you can see how I messed up the edges of the figure through ham-fisted handling in the new Photoshop CS5. CS5 is a lot different from Photoshop 7.0!)
More iPad/iPhone sketches on the wee Brush Pen Breakfast.

Sketch by iPhone
I hope this terrifies you as much as it does me.
Still stymied in my efforts to get Photoshop re-installed on my computer (and stymied on all sorts of computer fronts which has kept me away from here this week--apologies Scott--I dig yr monster!).
DID finally get new iPhone sync'ed, so I joined the "way-with-it" generation and made a sketch in the free version of SketchBook Xpress for this week's post.
And only one day late!
Updated Web Site ... Just First Step, But Was Necessary!!
Refreshed my Web Site with RDR images, new Misc. artwork ... and some other HTML stuff to make it mo' bettah ... Oh, BTW: don't download the demo reels -- they're old and I think both of them are currently the same thing. I'm revisiting 'em and will upload new ones shortly.

A new beastie concept
Hi kiddies. I've been sketching and painting concepts to add to my website in an effort to make myself more viably hireable by some company. Here's a gladiatorial creature I dreamed up. Let me know what you think. Paintings coming soon!

Speaking of Heroic Female Trappings...
Why haven't we talked about Wonder Woman's new costume yet? I give it thumbs down. The old costume is just too iconic to mess with very much. They are trying to make her look more contemporary, and less "pinup-like" which is the mistake. The original costume is timeless, and any super-hero as powerful as WW doesn't have to worry about looking silly in star-spangled hot pants. Click on the title to read the Washington Times article. They are re-doing her origin story too. I haven't read the comic but I like Gloria's Steinem's comments.
Remember the 1968 revamp of the character as a mod Emma Peel-type character?

New Poster on U&I's Online Store
This is Johnny B.'s Wizards poster. The story is on the site; the work is darned good, and we're waiting right now to hear back from Ralph Bakshi to see if U&I will be able to produce an original Wizards II graphic novel. Wouldn't that be nice? .... I'll keep you posted.

New Big Cartel Online Store for U&I Media!!
Something new this way comes.
Title is the active link to the store.
The United & International Media store started out as a blog, but it has now begun to migrate to Big Cartel. A blog didn't work as a store, but Big Cartel has the e-commerce ties that everyone wants. So far it is very easy to post things; easy to update. The store I am using is about $10 a month and allows 25 separate products. So check it out and gimme dat big time feedback!!!

Gun Nose Rough from Dave Garcia!!
There's critical mass for getting the Gun Nose Chronicles comic book done by the 2011 Con ... this just in from Dave Garcia, the artist who was to my left on Artist's Alley at the 2010 Con. A.A. is such a melting pot and over five days Dave and I got to know one another and our work, etc., to the point that Dave suggested doing a short for the comic called "Have Gun (Nose) Will Travel" where Gun Nose shows up with Dave's characters from "Shadow of the West."
And here is the first rough, just a couple of weeks away from the show's close. Naturally, I can't spoil the ending ...
Aaaah. So much to look forward to in 2011.
The Link is to Dave's Shadow of the West Web comic (when he has six issues done, he'll seek paper publishing). Lots of fun!

Gallery Girls - Life Sketching Session
The ambient light is so poor, I just ignore the idea of detail as I draw. It gives me an instant headache to try and focus on close work. But the main flaw that bugs me as I look at all these is the second one down. The see through the man's arm to the girl model shows a comfortabl seated set of hips that doesn't at all mate to the upper girl body hanging over the man's shoulder.
