That was better than Avatar. Thanks for the link. No ads on the youtube video. Odd. I think some people have zero idea how to make money with their art. They are compelled to do the art and lose the moneyit took to make it.
The guy that made War Of The Worlds - Goliath-- Joe Pearson-- gave me my only real storyboard job in animation. For Captain Simian Space Monkey. I don't think they made a cent off that. It's just appeared on Netflix Streaming. Very anime but from what I can tell watching the first 5 or so minutes, very little character empathy is going to happen.
Compared to this astro cat, you care about what happens to him.
I think a lot of people are hoping their efforts will be noticed by someone in Hollywood and someone will offer to pick it up make a full length movie. They think of it as an online portfolio piece. Isn't that how Sky Captain came about? By the way, I liked Sky Captain, but I'm probably in the minority.
Sky Captain has a great cast. And you can easily get into the dream alternate reality of it. I'm going to dig the War of The Worlds movie. I just can easily note what it lacks that would have made it more fans. Some sort of a handle on heart.
Wyland painted whale murals on the sides of buildings for free to raise environmental awareness. Sponsors donated paint and equipment. What a great way to advertise yourself as an artist. Now he's a multi-millionaire.
Working for the sake of exposure can be a smart business strategy. It just depends on the situation. When it comes to big companies like Warner Brothers trying to take advantage of writers, Harlan Ellison has strong feelings to the contrary. Seen this?

And you're right Tom. Work for free at exactly what you really want to be doing. It will happen as a gig.
