That very first picture of Cork is reminiscent of Jamie Hewlett's style in Tank Girl ... just a little bit. Can't find a good example online, so I might scan something from my collection ...

I like the Bartender's blacks in that bottom panel. That panel seems to really push a kind of envelope for this type of strip to have dynamic type of comic book action close ups like that last panel. Something you can do that the average gag strip artist wouldn't try. Good gag. The running chicken gag.
