Napkin Bar Doodle and More

If you click on the title, that's the hair I want Maude/myself to have.

Maude Macher and her best friend Joe Keats.

I want to learn how to do small comic type stuff. I guess I'll go study more.

Anyone see that new Jack Kirby book? It has some hilarious heads in it!

bJork sure is a little cute cartoon of a person. Nice sketches. Got a little EC Segar in that sketch of the John character.

Might be I'm seeing Segar because I'm working my way through volume one of Fantagraphics Popeye. Just now up to where he meets the Sea Hag.

I got that book (the Mark Evanier book, right?) and many more...yet still I fall so far short of the King. Sigh.

Kali, I love these drawings--so much personality and story to them. And I REALLY love your idea for a "small comic." I think this has so much potential for you. I wouldn't even get caught up in doing more than 1-4 page stories--just fun little scenes where you can pursue any little idea or design-y element you like (like your doodle-y border filigree on this comic page) without worrying about how it figures into a long format/story.

As the Italians would say, "Brava!"

Yes that one! Such genius heads! I skimmed through it and saw an amazing comic cover with this giant monster hanging out the window of a building- it killed me! Must get that...

Thanks Davis! I'm getting my film friend to write down some little situations for me, so I can just be the doodler and keep all my brain activity saved up for work and blogging, haha.

I don't know quite what it means, but I like it; especially the "jab, jab, wiggle".
