I'm about 1/3 done with the roughs. The art will not look like the nice panel 2. I'm going to try a UPA, Glenn Barr type of big shape tone and connecting-suggestive line like Darwyn Cooke. I want to do it quick, but have good volumes , just no busy detail.
Ellis, very exciting to see how far you've gotten. Looking forward to the finished project. So great too to be able to see your creative process as it happens.
Ben. This is for the ages. Thanks Tom. I'm as comfortably set up to draw as I've ever been. Can't wait to get the pencils done so I can start the boil down to simplicity I want the strip to have.
PS Ben, the idea is this goes into Marty's Gorgon comic someday. I'll also do it as a web comic. That's why it is designed storyboard style. One panel at a time.
I love it. Your characters always are...'characters.' And the art is great, as usual. Interested to see you strip things down to Cooke-level simplicity. I've always liked the details you add, but I also think a minimalist approach is beautiful, too.

Coolness! Very noire-ish.
