Exhausting

Trying to paint with oil when I haven't been set up for it in years.
Very tiresome.
Tore into it without much of a plan.
Did get the big shapes.

The fellow I'm doing the commission for has given me permission to do digital color and a print. That's what it will be.

Going back to "painting with a pencil." It takes sticking with it to paint with oil.

plus I chipped off the left hand corner of the masonite. Big chip off. A 0ne inch 45 degree angle that can't be seen here because I healed it. But I will finish this as a personal project.

I've been googling "becoming an illustrator" type searches. A common thread in the results is commit to a single medium.

Digital is the obvious way for me to go.
I should paint with the oil to re-acquaint myself with how cool it looks when you're forced to settle for blobs and tiles to show detail.

Elz...it's good to have fun with any medium that strikes yr fancy.

BUT....

Don't neglect yr strongest of strengths--yr pencil work! If you really have your heart set on some kind of coloring, I really like when you keep things tonal, pretty hi-key (meaning LIGHT), and keep the colors very de-saturated.

The pieces you do that way always sing. Pencil, a little pale marker tone to give things a little solidity, then some un-complicated black ink work.

Goodson's golden means.

You're right Marty. My fear of being limited always leads me to a predictable series of frustrations.
