Blair is away to Virginia for the week, so I am free to watch whatever I want on TV.
So I rented World War Z.
Not that I expected a great movie, but it sounded interesting for that sort of thing. From what I'd read in reviews, B. Pitt plays an infectious disease specialist, and this sounded interesting to me. Also, word was that the film was not "gross," but more "intellectual."
I thought it was pretty good for that sort of thing--certainly very tense. But they did that typical thing where the entire world population is being destroyed and the main character doesn't want to help out 'cuz, y'know...kids.
I justified the rental (Apple TV!) by sketching as I watched:
p.s. Even as mild as the film was, I had a hard time sleeping. 'Cuz, y'know...zombies!

I haven't seen it but the FX work showcase reels were bonkers. Zombies moving like tidal waves and stuff like that.
I don't do zombies.
I see you could easily have a website paying you handsomely for your illustrated reviews.
Great drawings.
I've heard World War Z is pretty good.
I guess Mel Brooks kid wrote it.
It gets a lot of good reviews from military guys that are immpressed by research and sticking to it's world logic and having it play out in a way that doesn't bump you.
I'll have to see it.
Good Tuesday contribution. Also a great Inktober piece.
Ellis, I love yr idea of peeples paying me for illustrated movie reviews.
Do you think a book like this would do well? There's a great Hirschfeld book that I found in a library (and subsequently purchased from our friend Stuart Ng), "The American Theatre." I like it better than his general survey books--instead this compiles most (all?) of his weekly drawings for the NY Times Theatre section in chronological order. So there's lots of well-known plays, but many, many more unknown ones--same with the stars illustrated. You guys should check it out (if you like that sort of thing).
I want to do something like that, but more of a random survey of movies I've watched (and drawn), mostly from TCM. Do it with a full "illustration" of the movie on one page, then offer some thoughts on the film itself on the facing page.
But I'll have to hurry if I'm gonna to get it into stores for Xmas!
Seriously Marty. Your kind of movie review site could be a quick favorite of Aint It Cool News. Maybe worth a tease headline like "ChinoDavis pulls our leg with a fan favorite" every time you do a new review.
And then with high traffic, the studios slip you some bennies on top of the free pass so you do a review of new releases.
Probably take 2 or 3 months.
You could probably set up shop with the Tumblr dashboard.
And regarding WWZ, they went so "mild" on the gore that I found it distracting how everything happened just off-screen. Probably trying to make it a family-friendly blockbuster. Funny how it's become reversed: Zombie movie with no gore and Walking Dead on TV that hits you in the face with it! (But I'm not going to let that stop my tradition of eating dinner while watching TV)
