Marty, I sent your drawing of me to my older sister. She loved it, but asked me what "Word!" meant.
I said, "Marty puts that on all his pictures. It's just something young people say. It's slang for... it kind of means... uhhh..."
Then I had to go to the Urban Dictionary to find a satisfactory definition. I settled on this one:
"A versatile declaration, originating (more or less) in hip-hop culture.
'Word' has no single meaning, but is used to convey a casual sense of affirmation, acknowledgement, agreement, or to indicate that something has impressed you favorably."
So now I know too.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! LOVE IT!!!!

Tom, you're right--it's meant as an affirmation, sort of in the same way as shouting "Amen!" during a sermon. Which I do often.
