I love this site Ellis. When I was a kid I read a 1962 Ace "Double" Science Fiction novel, "Cosmic Checkmate" on one side, "King of the Fourth Planet" on the other. I've never forgotten the artwork on the covers. A couple of years ago I sent away for a copy I found online and enjoyed re-reading both stories.
This one I know I owned. And I assume I had it prominently displayed at home. I look at it and think "I've got that laying around some where." One I Owned
That guy is maybe the greatest artist that ever lived. He did everything SciFi on the paperback rack and it was always some sort of different and weird abstraction. I have a big archive of his work on disk somewhere. I'll see if I can google him up.
"The double format inspired contests for ironic or satirical combinations of titles that might appear, as in 'No Blade of Grass'/'The Sheep Look Up'"
"If the Holy Bible was printed as an Ace Double", Charles McGrath once quipped, "it would be cut down to two 20,000-word halves with the Old Testament retitled as 'Master of Chaos' and the New Testament as 'The Thing With Three Souls.'"

Oooh that one-you-owned has Bradbury, Sturgeon and Heinlein - Nice! I love the paintings with air-bubble enclosed city spires. Who did the cover?

The Bible as an Ace Paperback. I like that.
Frazetta cover on one half, Roy Krenkell on the flip side.
