Small Format Comic Proposal

It's Tuesday. Did I share this page from my W.I.P. ode to Black Flag? From a book proposal for the 33.3 book series. They've never done a comic graphic novel before, but here's hoping.

p.s. lots of stuff needs messaging--esp'ly the lettering. I was going for a sort of late Kirby script on the title. Trying to find a sweet spot between Milt Caniff, Daniel Clowes and Raymond Pettibon...(good luck on that)

Exactly what is a 33.3 book? When I google it there seem to be a lot of hits, but no comprehensive explanation of what 33.3 is. I depend on there always being a Wikipedia entry, "33.3 is...". Is it a format, is it a publisher? Is it one-third the size of a "regular" book?

As always, awesome work Marty. How many WIP's do you have these days and what are they? When will we see more of them?

I like that cover. It reminds me of an Eisner PM magazine kind of sensibility.

Let me check on this before I make the comment.Yep. I have this book.
LOUD 3D
Good 3D and Black Flag is the first band listed on the back cover.

Tom! El!

El, thanks for the link. Just a clarification, this is page one, the "splash page," not the cover.

The book series 33 and 1/3 has been around for years now, churning out titles all the time. Each book represents one writer's take on a single album. In my case that's Black Flag's "Damaged," but there's a book on The Beatles "White Album," one on the Rolling Stones "Sticky Fingers," etc., etc.

The books are physically small, (about 4"x5" a page), so I'd go with no more than one or two panels per page. Kinda like Rick Geary's Victorian Murder series--but even smaller.

Thanks for the kind words. Getting this together was a super-rush job: they wanted the first chapter included in yr book proposal, and I just wasn't ready to create the whole thing--had to drop 1/2 of my pages (couldn't get 'em done in time), and what I had made little sense (doh!).

On the plus side, some music industry friends were so psych'ed when they heard about the idea, they said I have to do the whole thing as a stand alone series--maybe the whole history of Black Flag--maybe even a whole, "Tale Of American Punk Rock" series. Could be cool....

(p.s. The BEST 33.3 I've read is John Darnielle's opus dedicated to Black Sabbath's "Master of Reality": I was never into Sabbath, but the book is quite brilliant as a BOOK, independent of yr views on the music (it's written in the form of a teenager's Psych Ward journal the Drs. are forcing him to fill out everyday--it ends up being really moving, and it totally gets at the heart of what's important about music).)

So this is sort of like what we used to call a Mini Comic?

Where does one purchase such tomes?
