Mr. Mittens Progress Report

Here is what I’ve done so far. I placed the scanned sketch into an Illustrator document and chose template as the layer option. Using the pen tool, I traced the various parts of the cat on separate layers. Finally, I filled and stroked the various bits and pieces. I’m still playing around with the color and would like to make some sort of a background for him.

It has such a beautiful clean, graphic look to it. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of background you put in. Are you doing this for a client or just for the fun of it? Is there a story attached to this character?

Where's his cigarette?

This is for a personal project that was suggested by Dan. It will hopefully be part of a Halloween card design. Mr. Mittens is a joke between Dan and myself. A number of zoos seem to have these small wild cats that look more like house cats. Dan and I refer to them as Mr. Mittens.
Sorry Ellis, no time for a cigarette break right now. You've given me an idea though, so maybe later.

sorry d.
I have cigs on the brain. I'm listening to old timey detective radio programs on my hour long commute. The old commercials are preserved with the programming. I've always had weak sales resistance.

Dig the character. Reminds me of the old MGM cartoon cats.

I know what you mean. We found a DVD of some early Jack Benny Show episodes that are loaded with Lucky Strikes commercials. One show started with a Lucky Strikes commercial. Then a musical number that about New Years in Trinidad turned into a Lucky Strikes commercial. Then there was the middle commercial ... In another episode they got Humphrey Bogart into it. It was amusing but at the same time kind of scary.
