Joined together- a beginning

Had to get off the dime and start drawing. 

We'll see about finishing this and getting the intro panel done. 

Intro where Uncle Goggle talks to the reader.

And maybe more if I'm inspired.

My dummy will probably look a bit like this.

 I may make the ventriloquist look like the TV show Jimmy Olson.

The finished product

Here's what I turned in.  I'm pretty happy with it.

Figure drawing tonight

I may fix the staff holder in photoshop at some point. Move his shoulder area around.

But this is the untouched product.

It was fun. The costumes were complex and would have been very noisy to do accurately.

So there's a lot of simplification.

Which is a good thing to practice.

Liquified the shoulder- Cut the arm and moved it up. Now I'm happy.

I've now read the 1930s novel

It's interesting that the Modern Classics version used this cover- completely uncredited. 

It's by Thomas Blackshear

It was great to read since it is taken straight from the script.

With a lot of the tough Ruth Rose dialogue being lifted straight from the script.

The spider pit scene is in the book. Sailors survive, land in mud, stuck up to their hips, and the spiders, looking like kegs with legs, swarm them.

The New York City ending is 10 pages. Of an 158 page book.

If you have never read an Elmore Leonard story, now you can start at the beginning. This is his first fiction sale. I scanned it from my own 1951 copy of Argosy magazine.

Final Monsters n Dames

I went for understated with the caption....

Monsters and Dames more WIP

I'll probably fiddle with the colors of the background a lot more to push it back.  I want the windows to feel like they are bright in comparison to the rest of the scene.

UPDATE:  Changed some colors around, finished the base color pass and just started a bit of lighting FX.  Next will be highlights and shadows for the scene and perhaps some more lighting layers.  Still trying to decide if I should put the chandelier in... it would hang in that space above Occular and the tall guy behind her.
