ULTRAMAN is coming back!

Something  Tsubaraya Productions has got in the works. Love how they made Ultraman more organic looking as he was originally conceived. Looks far cooler than Pacific Rim

Been awhile since I posted.....

Here's a gaggle of sketches and doodles from my sketchbook. Got a lead on a part time job here in Sac, hoping to hear more tomorrow.

Freelance wip

Color and touch up to finish it.
Truly WIP. Did everything but the central interest first.
A Wizard girl picking a lock.
Totally erased the sack, changed the shadow passing over the big vase/urn.
And these still have to be colored. I've learned my lesson on color.
These will be very pastel and likely as not monochrome.
Lot better without the sack.
Onto color dabbling.

Did the color. Stuck with the idea of just coloring a drawing

Comic Con San Diego 2015 Day Three and Four

 Saturday
A lot more costumed fans turned up

A huge crowd was gathered around this booth. I saw a bunch of good-looking people sitting at a table signing autographs with microphones hovering above them. I didn't recognize any of them until people in the crowd started waving at this one blonde woman yelling out to her, "January!"

Slightly less of a crowd about this table, but just as good-looking a person sitting at the table.

Entire population of DC hero and villain cosplayers gathered on the back steps.

Baby Edward Scissorhands looking puzzled and bored.

Some kind of Harley and Deathstroke the Terminator

Thought this was amusing. Stumbled across this picture on the internet one day. Apparently sometimes these bi-colored lobsters are caught, half-brown, half-orange.  Looks like "Deathstroke the Lobster" doesn't he?

This woman did a good job on her Mortal Kombat character, Mileena.

Sunday
This year's TAG group had a picnic lunch on the lawn behind the Hyatt Hotel.  So many missing members...

Comic Con San Diego 2015 - Day Two

I had the pleasure of running into Patrick Ho at the Con yesterday for those of you who know him. He's still working at Daybreak.  Also saw Batton Lash who remembered you Marty, as "an extremely talented artist".

I made the acquaintance of a writer named Maxwell Alexander Drake who had a booth there.  He is a freelance writer working part time as a contractor for SOE/Daybreak.  His job is to rewrite the lore for the new Everquest game and write fiction based on that lore.
http://www.maxwellalexanderdrake.com/

I talked to him for awhile, and what impressed me was that he told Daybreak that he needed to have a free hand in writing new lore, and that his stories were NOT going to be written for the hard core fan base, but rather for those unfamiliar with the game.  Guess I will try reading some of it.  He and I were talking about how "Lore" as written by the designers, is unreadable for the average person.

He also has a reputation for something called the "Genesis of Oblivion" saga - http://www.genesisofoblivion.com/
Apparently he was an established fantasy/sci-fi writer before the producers at SOE offered him the job, they being fans of his.  He also writes graphic novels:

After I told him I was a former SOE artist he invited me to network because he is constantly looking for artists to collaborate with him on personal projects.  I said that I wasn't looking for work, but maybe some of you guys (Ellis?  Marty?) might want to talk to him.

Comic Con San Diego 2015 - Day One

Not too much to report.  I didn't see that many really cool costumes. The costumes above were the best for the day.  I don't know who they are supposed to be though, anybody know? And I just threw in the Moebius pic for coolness sake. Kept my purchases down to a mere $50 or so.

"Safari Honeymoon" is by a guy named Jesse Jacobs. Hadn't heard of him before buying his graphic novel at the Con. His work is really strange in a wonderful kind of way:

Ran into Rob Cuenca and had a good chat.  He's looking for work since last February when the new company bought SOE. Haven't seen him for years even though we both worked at SOE but in separate buildings.  He told me he's in the process of re-making his art career, trying his hand at programming and considering other options outside games.   Later ran into Jeff Remmer too and talked with him a while. Nice to see them both.

TAG lunch Sunday!

If you're in SoCal this weekend (even if you're not at the Con), please try to come to the annual once-in-a-great-while TAG reunion.  Scheduled for Sunday mid-day before Brent and Jeff leave San Diego. Stay tuned for details, baby!
